- 07We are probably the best program in NYC in letting people know the day, dates, times and locations of our programs. However, sometimes enrollment, gym, or park permits change. These unforeseen instances are few and far between, but they do happen. When they do, changes must occur. We have an excellent record of doing exactly what we say on our applications. If something changes we cannot refund, but we may credit or transfer if we feel it is appropriate.

- 31First, we find it much easier than using birth-dates. Second, it is easier to verify what grade your child is in rather than when his/her birthday is. The most important reason is that children in the same grade want to play with, and against, others in their grade. Birthday cutoffs are difficult and friends could be separated.

- 33We love the 2 grade concept for a few reasons. Each year different groups of children move up to another group and leave the younger one behind. We do not feel it is great to play with one group from Pre-K through grade 12. When your child is in the younger grade he/she can learn from those in the older grade. When your child is in the older grade he can help a children in the younger grade.

- 35Teams are made up of individuals. We are a community program and do not take full teams into the league. We build teams by coach draft in basketball, flag football, and baseball for grades 4 – 12. We have director-selected teams in baseball in pre-K – grade 3 and K & 1 flag football, soccer and lacrosse. We frown on friend requests for drafted teams and if you ask they are never guaranteed. The coach’s goal at the draft is to make the best team he can. We try to have teams that can compete in close games. We do not make school teams.

- 37Maybe. When your child is in a younger grade (below 4th) we try to place him/her with a requested friend. It is not always possible. Our belief is that children should play because they enjoy, or want to learn, the sport and meet new friends. We feel that this is important to their development. Special requests MUST be made prior to team make-up. After teams go out, we will not be able to accommodate your request or change your child’s team. Requests must be made in writing.

- 58Concussions can occur in any sport or recreation activity. All coaches, parents, and athletes need to learn concussion signs and symptoms and what to do if a concussion occurs. All of YYAA’s professional coaches have been made aware of how to properly identify a concussion in children. We care about the kids in our care. Coaches are able to recognize concussion signs and symptoms and learn how to respond, and focus on prevention and preparedness to help keep athletes safe season-to-season. What is a Concussion? * A concussion is a brain injury. * Most concussions occur without loss of consciousness. * Recognition and proper response to concussions when they first occur can help prevent further injury or even death.
- 59To help recognize a concussion, you should watch for the following two things among your athletes: * A forceful bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body that results in rapid movement of the head AND * Any change in the athlete’s behavior, thinking, or physical functioning. Athletes who experience any of the signs and symptoms listed below after a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body should be kept out of play the day of the injury and until a health care professional, experienced in evaluating for concussion, says they are symptom-free and it’s OK to return to play.
